Adenium bonsai from seeds – Learn  how to grow. Especially through simple steps. Adenium, commonly  known as Desert Rose,  is a native of East Africa and Arabia. But, grows well in almost all places with warm climates. The fleshy shining leaves as well as flowers, make the plant ideal for making bonsai. Moreover, the bulbous stem called caudex, is one of the unique features of  Adenium plants.

Tips to learn growing Adenium bonsai

1. Seed selection and sowing.

First collect mature seeds from pod like fruits. Then sow it in half inch deep trays. Use fertilized well drained garden soil. Keep it in partial sunlight and spray water regularly. Also avoid over watering as seeds have the tendency to decay easily. Usually the seeds take a maximum of about ten days to sprout.

2.Replanting :

After one or two months, replant the seedlings in pots filled with sand and fertilizer. Use organic fertilizers like cow dung or compost. Especially mix sand and fertilizer in the ratio 3:1. Adding river sand helps proper drainage in the pot. Usually, water blockage causes roots to decay faster. Moreover keep the plant in sunlight and water regularly.

3. Training:

Indeed the plant starts blooming within one year. Meanwhile the caudex grows larger and attains particular shapes. Then transfer the plant to a much wider pot filled with potting mixture in the same ratio as in step 2. Keep the caudex above soil level, and ensure a gap of about two inches between the stem and edge of the pot.

4. Pruning:

Cut the stem above the caudex with a sterilized knife. A new shaving blade is equally good. Then apply some natural fungicide on the wound. Turmeric powder as well as and apple cider vinegar are effective.

Finally new shoots develop from the cuts. Also new flower buds begin to appear.

5. Wiring:

Surely, wiring the branches gives the required shape according to your imagination. But avoid winding the stem too tightly, as it leaves marks on the stem.

6. Repotting :

Repot your Adenium bonsai every two or three years. Apply the same methods as done in step 3, each time.
